Midjourney
The king of AI image generation — the most beautiful results, consistent style, but a closed ecosystem and Discord-only workflow.
What I love
- + The best-looking outputs of any image generator
- + Consistent aesthetic and style
- + V6 handles text in images really well
- + Excellent for product shots, concepts, illustrations
- + Active community full of inspiration
What bugs me
- − The web UI is new, the Discord workflow is annoying
- − No API for automation
- − Less control over the output than Stable Diffusion
- − Can't be run locally
- − The Basic plan ($10/month) has low limits
Why 5 stars?
Because the results speak for themselves. Midjourney generates images that look like the work of a professional designer. No other tool reaches the same aesthetic quality consistently.
What makes Midjourney special
Aesthetics
Midjourney has its own visual "language" — elegant, cinematic, thoughtful. Even a simple prompt like "city at night" gives you a result that looks like concept art for a sci-fi film. Other generators (DALL-E, Stable Diffusion) need much more specific prompts for comparable quality.
Consistency
Once you find a style that works for you, Midjourney holds it. That's critical for branding — you need a series of images that look like they belong together. Midjourney nails this.
Text in images
V6 dramatically improved text rendering. Logos, signs, typography — it finally looks legible and natural. Still not perfect, but years ahead of the competition.
Real-world usage
I don't use Midjourney on airepublic.cz yet (the site is minimalist, no illustrations). But for client projects I deploy it for:
- Hero images for landing pages
- Product concepts for e-commerce
- Social media graphics (thumbnails, banners)
- Presentations (visuals instead of stock photos)
Issues
Discord workflow
Midjourney ran on Discord only for a long time — typing prompts in chat, downloading images from threads. Now they have a web UI, but it's still not fully featured. I miss having an API for automation and integration into my own tools.
Control
Midjourney is "opinionated" — it has its own style, and sometimes it's hard to convince it to generate exactly what you want. For pixel-perfect control, Stable Diffusion (with ControlNet) is better.
Comparison
| | Midjourney | DALL-E 3 | Stable Diffusion | |---|---|---|---| | Output quality | Best | Good | Depends on settings | | Ease of use | Medium | Easiest | Hardest | | Control | Medium | Low | Highest | | Local hosting | No | No | Yes | | API | No | Yes (OpenAI) | Yes | | Price | From $10/month | Part of ChatGPT Plus | Free (hardware) |
Verdict
Midjourney is the best AI image generator for people who want beautiful results without deep technical tweaking. If you need full control or an API — Stable Diffusion. If you want simplicity — DALL-E. If you want the most beautiful — Midjourney.
